Professional History
Aysha is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Endoscopist, practising within the public and private health sectors. She completed basic physician training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) and undertook advanced gastroenterology training at the RMH, Launceston General Hospital and Eastern Health. She combines clinical practice with academic research and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne for which she is the recipient of the Crohn's and Colitis Australia (CCA) PhD Scholarship, the University of Melbourne Professional and Practice-Based Scholarship and the Avant Doctors-in-Training Scholarship. Her project aims to investigate novel biomarkers of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), in collaboration with the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI) of Medical Research. Aysha has also been awarded the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) Celltrion Healthcare IBD Fellowship for 2022.
Gastroenterology Service
Aysha's subspecialty interest is in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. She completed an IBD Fellowship at the RMH in 2020, gaining valuable research and clinical experience, most notably in IBD management in pregnancy and proficiency in intestinal ultrasound, a non-invasive tool with an evolving role in luminal gastroenterology. More broadly, she also welcomes referrals for management of general aspects of gastroenterology in adults including iron deficiency, gastrointestinal bleeding, bowel cancer screening, colonic polyp surveillance, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease and liver disorders.
